WANDERING THOUGHTS

Our own breathing, our hearts pounding, always with us yet silenced by the noise around us. Vehicles passing by with a resonating swoosh, people talking endlessly, machinery all too many. Our world’s a noisy mess. It’s chaos everywhere. When all you want to do is to listen to yourself.

Deep inside I know the world will never be a quiet place. But we can probably narrow it down to nature’s naked sounds. It is simply not as annoying as ours. Smooth, relaxed and not at all startling. It’s raw beauty is pleasant to the ears. Most people, if not all, will surely agree.

Birds chirping, trees swaying, our own breathing. Yes, our own breathing.

Then, there’s our wandering thoughts. Our minds that are never asleep even when we sleep. Always discerning on what we want to do, what we want to say, and what we want to keep. Dreams, secrets, plans. Oh how we think of so many things especially when we try not to.

If only we give ourselves that chance to listen to ourselves. A permission to get lost in our thoughts and to let go of too many distractions screaming to get our attention. We are so used to having someone else tell us what is right and wrong, which is better and who to believe. We are continuously driven by our surroundings and our peers. Easily swayed by circumstance and peoples’ response.

Our mind is such an amazing world to escape to. Getting lost in it is each our own’s story. When bothered, I always remind myself to get a reboot. These may help.

Be gentle.

We live most of our days triggered by emotions and thoughts other than ours. Give yourself enough breather to be away from things (or people) other than yourself.

Be with nature.

Realize how deep our thoughts are like the ocean, and just how tangled and confusing it may be like the deep forests.

Be at peace with silence.

Only then can we hear ourselves. It’s like awakening from within. When we decide to silence ourselves and ‘stop’ thinking, that is when our own thoughts start to flow. It seems that we always knew what we wanted, we just never listened.

Be accepting no matter how random it may get.

It is a chance to get to know ourselves more, to deepen our understanding, and to reconsider perspectives. *suggested read: Life Reset

Take a pause and let your own thoughts run free.

The answers to our questions are at most times within us waiting for us to acknowledge. And when we let our minds wander through previous experiences and ideas, we tend to create a different world. With differed scenarios, our usual decisions that we thought was logical then may seem lame. Absurdly decided when you are emotionally considering everyone else’s thoughts.

Indeed, our mind is such an amazing world to escape to. Getting lost in it is a whole other story. At the end of the day, we got to know ourselves more. Digging deeper knowledge we could have missed if we didn’t take a pause and listened. With what we decide to do with it is still up to us. But then again, if you don’t listen to yourself, who will?
